Learn how we can support your relationship to reignite the spark of love in your life with couples therapy services.
Couples counselling or marriage therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to improve your relationship and build meaningful connections. We support all relationship types, including heterosexual, LGBTQ2S+ and others.
Many couples in Winnipeg have challenges in their relationship, which can be difficult to resolve on their own. These challenges are often rooted in communication struggles, expressing your thoughts and emotions freely, or letting emotions hinder progress. Other times these challenges may be due to external stressors of life, such as work demands, family responsibilities, or financial stress.
The sooner you reach out for help, the better chance we have to help you overcome your relationship challenges. Unhealthy patterns of communication or behaviours get harder to reset the longer they’ve been established. Our couples counselling or marriage therapy experts can support your relationship to reignite the spark of love in your life. We support all relationship types as we are open minded and non-judgemental.
Our team has experience in treating the following issues:
We have created a unique therapy program for treating clients that follows an evidence-based methodology for getting out of your old patterns of thinking and into a happier life.
During our first session, we’ll ask questions to learn more about you and your partner, including your individual childhoods, relationship origins, life goals, health challenges and overall beliefs. Our goal is to identify any limiting beliefs, traumas, abuses or unhealthy patterns that may be holding you back in your relationship, then to create a treatment plan based on your relationship goals.
During our next three sessions, we’ll continue to explore all of your beliefs, memories, traumas and abuses, being mindful to respect your cultural traditions and customs. Our goal is to identify any and all beliefs and memories that may limit your life and are no longer serving your goals. Then, we can create an action plan for which beliefs to address first.
During our remaining sessions, we’ll use a combination of reprocessing or reconditioning techniques to help you deal with trauma, abuse or harmful memories. The goal is to remove any emotion or pain associated with the memory, allowing you to find your inner peace in your relationship.
We draw our wisdom from a variety of sources and methodologies, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion focused therapy (EFT), and more.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) aims to change your thoughts in order to change how you feel, which is useful for treating anxiety, depression, trauma, marital challenges, and many other concerns.
CBT is based on several core principles, including:
CBT treatment involves changing your thinking patterns, including:
CBT treatment also involves changing your behavioural patterns, such as:
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) refers to holding opposing views, or the existence of opposites. In DBT, you learn two opposing strategies: acceptance (i.e. your experiences are valid) and change (i.e. you have to make positive changes to manage your emotions).
DBT is divided into four stages of treatment:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a method of mindful therapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept your thoughts and feelings without judgement. ACT works by accepting your life experiences as they come, without evaluating or trying to change them.
ACT offers mindfulness exercises to encourage you to build compassion around difficult experiences to free you from obsessive negative thinking to achieve peace of mind. ACT works by focusing on three areas:
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) is a method focused on the role of emotions to human experience and change in therapy. EFT focuses on strategies that promote the awareness, acceptance, expression, utilization, regulation, and transformation of emotion. The goal of EFT is to strengthen the self, regulate affect and create new meaning.
EFT is based on several core principles, such as:
A therapist trained in EFT will help you gain awareness and understanding of your emotions. During each session, the therapist will:
